According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the fatal single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 6:36 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Troopers reported that a 2006 Toyota Sequoia was traveling eastbound at a very high rate of speed when it ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle re-entered the roadway out of control, crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the road, and struck a ditch.
After crossing the ditch, the SUV struck a power pole, bringing down power lines, and then collided with a large tree, where it came to rest. Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire and was completely engulfed, resulting in fatal injuries to both occupants.
Marcedo Allen McNeil was identified as the driver, and Reginald K. Howard was identified as the passenger. Due to the extensive fire damage, authorities said it is unknown whether either man was restrained at the time of the crash. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene, and all next of kin have been notified.
