The Greeneville community is deeply mourning the tragic loss of Scott Hollenbeck, 66, who passed away early Saturday morning in a devastating house fire on Goddard Drive.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was reported around 1 a.m. after a caller awoke to a loud noise upstairs and discovered the home filled with smoke and flames in his brother’s bedroom. Heavy smoke and fire prevented the caller from reaching Scott’s bedroom to help him.

Firefighters from the Tusculum, Camp Creek, Debusk, and Sunnyside volunteer fire departments, along with the Greeneville City Fire Department, responded quickly to the scene. Crews worked to bring the fire under control and entered the home, where they discovered Scott’s body in his bedroom.

Fire investigators from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to examine the cause of the fire. At this time, the cause is undetermined. Scott Hollenbeck’s body was sent to a forensic center for formal identification and autopsy.
