SEARCY, Ark. — The Searcy community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Leigh Ann Moore, a 37-year-old mother whose body was found near Departee Creek less than 24 hours after her vehicle was discovered submerged in the water.
According to the White County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call around 5:45 p.m. Sunday reporting a car that had crashed into Departee Creek near Bradford. Deputies responded quickly and, with assistance from the Bradford Fire Department, entered the water and confirmed the vehicle was unoccupied.

Lieutenant Scott Seiders said investigators observed several indicators suggesting the vehicle had been driven into the creek and that the driver exited afterward. “The ignition was in the on position. It was in drive, the window was down,” Seiders said.
Debris at the bottom of the creek prevented the vehicle from fully submerging, allowing deputies to see the license plate. Captain Clayton Edwards said officers were able to identify the owner and determined the car belonged to Moore. Deputies contacted family members and checked her residence, but she could not be located.
After an extensive search lasting nearly 24 hours, Moore’s body was found a few hundred yards from the boat launch.
Investigators believe Moore likely died from a cold-weather-related injury and do not suspect foul play. However, Seiders said the case remains open pending a final determination by the medical examiner.
Friends and loved ones are remembering Moore as a kind, resilient woman who built a life in Searcy after moving from Pocahontas. Former coworker and close friend Tifani Holt described her as “a beautiful human being,” recalling their bond formed while working together at the now-closed Mixing Bowl restaurant.
Back in Pocahontas, Dora’s Sale Barn Café is accepting donations to help cover Moore’s funeral expenses.
As the investigation continues, the community is united in grief, remembering a life lost far too soon and offering prayers for her family, especially her child, during this painful time.
