The Chesapeake community is waking up in mourning following the tragic and untimely death of Andre L. Yeager, Jr., 22, who was killed in a fatal single-vehicle crash early Monday morning in Hampton, Virginia.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred on Interstate 664 northbound near Exit 2 in the City of Hampton. Investigators say Andre was driving a 2020 Volkswagen at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle while traveling in the left lane. The car crossed all lanes of traffic before leaving the roadway on the right side of the interstate. The vehicle then struck a tree and a culvert pipe, causing severe damage.

Andre, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved, and the incident remains under active investigation by Virginia State Police.
