HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 47-year-old Darick Navarro, who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a tragic collision involving a train and a UPS delivery truck in Reno County.
Navarro, a Hutchinson resident, lost his life around 3 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 50 and South Woodberry Road, close to Burrton, on the Reno County side of the Reno–Harvey County line. According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, Navarro was the only person inside the UPS truck when it was struck by a train traveling northwest.

Reno County Sheriff Darrian Campbell said the train, powered by two engines and carrying 54 railcars, collided with the delivery vehicle as it was moving southwest across the tracks. Authorities confirmed that neither the train’s engineer nor its conductor was injured in the crash.
The sudden loss has sent waves of sorrow throughout Hutchinson, where family, friends, and coworkers are remembering Navarro as a hardworking and dependable individual. Community members have expressed their condolences and are offering prayers and support to his loved ones during this difficult time.
