CLOVIS, N.M. — The Curry County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the tragic death of 24-year-old Rogelio Velasquez III of Bovina, Texas, following a multi-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning near the intersection of Curry Road 2 and U.S. Highway 70, south of Clovis.

According to authorities, Velasquez was traveling eastbound on Curry Road 4 in a white Hyundai when he entered the intersection at U.S. Highway 70 and was struck by a southbound Chevrolet pickup driven by 19-year-old Larry Horval of Copperas Cove, Texas. The collision ejected Velasquez from his vehicle, and he was subsequently struck by a passing vehicle that left the scene. A fourth vehicle also became involved while attempting to avoid the crash.

Emergency responders from the Clovis Fire Department treated Velasquez at the scene before transporting him to Plains Regional Medical Center, where he later passed away from his injuries. Authorities have not released further details regarding the driver who struck Velasquez, and the investigation remains ongoing.
