ATHENS, Ga. — The Athens community is mourning the tragic loss of 26-year-old Cole Anargyros, who passed away early Thursday morning after being shot on West Broad Street, just blocks from the University of Georgia campus.
According to Athens-Clarke County Police, the call came in just before 2:30 a.m., reporting gunfire near the intersection of West Broad Street and Pulaski Street. Officers arriving at the scene found Anargyros suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but despite the efforts of medical personnel, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Police have identified 22-year-old Jamarioun Clark of Madison, Georgia, as the suspect in the fatal shooting. Clark, a convicted felon, has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and firearms violations. Authorities have issued an arrest warrant and are actively searching for him.
