NOWTHEN, Minn. — The close-knit community of Nowthen is grieving the loss of 53-year-old Clayton Connolly, a retired Brooklyn Park police officer who passed away Tuesday morning after a tragic vehicle-pedestrian crash on Main Street NW at Highway 169 in Elk River.
Authorities reported that Connolly had stopped to assist a motorist whose car was stuck on icy roads. While helping, both Connolly and the disabled vehicle were struck by a car exiting northbound Highway 169 and turning onto eastbound Main Street. He was rushed to Mercy Hospital by Elk River Ambulance but was pronounced deceased shortly after.
Connolly, a dedicated officer for 20 years, was widely respected for his service and commitment to protecting others. His unexpected death has deeply affected his family, friends, former colleagues, and the Nowthen community, who remember him as a compassionate and selfless public servant.
