PALM BAY, Fla. — The Palm Bay community is grieving the loss of 37-year-old Christa Ryder, who died in a tragic vehicle crash in nearby Melbourne on December 20.

Authorities say the fatal accident occurred around 2:12 p.m. at the intersection of Strawbridge Avenue and Pine Street. Ryder, the driver of a gray Dodge Charger, was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle. The car left the roadway, struck a concrete pole and a chain-link fence, and came to rest near a retention pond. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and no other vehicles were involved.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the crash. Palm Bay residents and Ryder’s loved ones are left mourning her sudden passing.
