GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids community is mourning the tragic death of Detroit Jones, 38, who was fatally shot early Sunday morning on the Southeast side of the city.
According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Lafayette Avenue SE, between MLK Jr. Street and Pleasant Street. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Jones suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where, despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries. His death has been officially ruled a homicide.

Police reported that a person of interest was taken into custody around 3:30 a.m. as part of the ongoing investigation.
