With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, the community mourns the tragic loss of Marcedo Allen McNeil, 33, of Stedman, North Carolina, and Reginald K. Howard, 39, of Harrells, North Carolina, who both passed away Saturday evening in a devastating crash on NC Highway 411 (Harrells Highway) just east of Garland.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 6:36 p.m. on December 13, 2025. A 2006 Toyota Sequoia was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when it ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle re-entered the roadway out of control, crossed the centerline, ran off the left side, and struck a ditch. It then crossed the ditch, struck a power pole, bringing down power lines, and collided with a large tree.

Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire and was completely engulfed, leaving both occupants with fatal injuries. Marcedo Allen McNeil, the driver, and Reginald K. Howard, the passenger, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the extensive fire damage, authorities said it is unknown whether either man was wearing a seat belt. All next of kin have been notified.

First responders from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Garland Fire Department, Garland EMS, and the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office responded swiftly. Barnes and Sons Wrecker Service removed the vehicle, and Four County Power Company restored damaged power lines.

This heartbreaking tragedy has left family, friends, and neighbors grieving two lives lost far too soon. The community stands in unity, offering prayers, love, and support to both families during this unimaginable time. May Marcedo and Reginald be remembered for the lives they lived and the love they shared, and may their families find strength and comfort in the days ahead.
