With heavy hearts, the community mourns the tragic loss of Reginald K. Howard, 39, of Harrells, North Carolina, who passed away Saturday evening following a devastating crash on NC Highway 411 (Harrells Highway) just east of Garland.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the fatal single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 6:36 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Reginald was a passenger in a 2006 Toyota Sequoia that was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when it ran off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle re-entered the road out of control, crossed the centerline, ran off the left side, and struck a ditch.
The SUV then crossed the ditch, struck a power pole, bringing down power lines, and collided with a large tree, where it came to rest. Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire and was completely engulfed. Reginald sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the extensive fire damage, authorities said it is unknown whether he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders from the Garland Fire Department, Garland EMS, Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Authorities confirmed that all next of kin have been notified.
Reginald K. Howard is remembered as a valued member of the Harrells community, whose life and presence meant so much to those who knew and loved him. His sudden passing has left an immeasurable void, and he will be deeply missed.
