JONES COUNTY, N.C. — The Havelock community is mourning the tragic loss of Aaron Overman, 23, who passed away early Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in a single-vehicle crash on Ten Mile Fork Road near Scott Road.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. when Overman’s vehicle ran off the right side of the road and overturned multiple times in a field. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but Overman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, Bradley Cass, 31, of New Bern, was ejected from the car and also died. Troopers noted that Cass was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. A second passenger, Courtney Rhodes, 29, sustained serious injuries and was transported to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment. Authorities said speeding was the primary contributing factor in the overnight crash.

Family, friends, and neighbors have expressed profound sorrow over Overman’s sudden passing. Known for his vibrant personality and strong ties to the Havelock community, he leaves behind family and loved ones who are struggling to process this devastating loss.

Authorities have reminded the public of the importance of safe driving, particularly at night, and the critical role seat belts play in protecting lives.
