In Loving Memory of Emilio Hoyos

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson community is mourning the tragic loss of Emilio Hoyos, 39, who passed away Monday evening after being struck by a vehicle in east Tucson.

According to the Tucson Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:05 p.m. Dec. 15 in the 300 block of East 22nd Street, near 4th Avenue. Hoyos was walking in the curb lane of eastbound 22nd Street when he was struck. Authorities reported that he was not in a marked or implied crosswalk, with the nearest marked crosswalk approximately 160 feet away. The vehicle involved was traveling at about 35 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Emergency responders from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported Hoyos to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver, a 36-year-old, was unharmed and evaluated for impairment by the TPD Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit, which confirmed that the driver was not impaired. Police stated that the driver saw Hoyos prior to the crash and attempted to avoid him, but the collision could not be prevented.

Hoyos’ passing has left family, friends, and the community deeply saddened. At 39 years old, his life was cut short in a sudden and tragic accident. Those who knew him remember his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him.
