BOONE COUNTY, Ill. — Family, friends, and the Rockford community are grieving the sudden loss of 22-year-old Dakota Begay, who was killed in a tragic car crash early Wednesday morning in Boone County.
According to the Boone County Coroner, Begay was driving a 2002 Lexus northbound on Irene Road, north of Bates Road, when he lost control of the vehicle. Authorities said the car left the roadway and struck a tree around 5:40 a.m. on December 17 in the 3700 block of Irene Road.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, but Begay suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not released details regarding possible contributing factors, such as road conditions or speed.
Begay’s passing has left loved ones heartbroken, as they remember a young life cut short. Friends and community members have expressed condolences and shared memories as they come together to support one another during this difficult time.
